oh the places you'll go party

Wow! What a year it has been! Addie turned 1 last week and I'm finally getting around to blogging about it! I'm sure all of you can relate to the fun, crazy business of the holidays! We've had a blast! There's so much to catch up on, but for now we'll stick to Addie's one year milestones and birthday party!

I just can't believe that our baby is already one! It has really flown by! I feel like we were just at the hospital yesterday anxiously waiting to meet her. But at the same time, it's so hard to remember not having her in our family. She's such a key part of our little family unit and we can't imagine life without her! She is a joy and a beauty and a peacemaker. She's almost always laughing or smiling and she just loves life. I'm learning so much by being her mother and I'm so grateful for her!

so happy to be playing on the couch!

Emily has taught Addie to have a thick skin... she can put up with a lot! But, she's also learned from her big sister how to stick up for herself... both good qualities, in my opinion ;)

this is her "I really like you" face... you should feel extra special if she gives you this face :)

after drawing all over her face!

she knows how to climb onto all the riding toys now. she can push herself on some of them, but prefers to have other people give her rides... it's a back breaker!

she also takes her turns pushing :)

getting into more trouble with her sissy!

such a doll!

For Addie's party this year we went with an "oh the places you'll go" theme. It's my very favorite children's book and (in my opinion) the perfect theme for a one year old who's just starting out her wonderful journey through life. It was fun using all the bright colors to decorate (and as a bonus, we were able to reuse a lot from Emily's first birthday)! It was mostly family at my parents' house and we had a really nice time!

I was very proud of these cookies ;)

I had to include a real life shot ;) It was SO windy that day, so I had to wait until the balloons blew to the top and snap a quick photo... most of the time they were doing this!

her favorite part of the day by far was carrying this balloon around everywhere! we initially tied it to her wrist and she LOVED it! When we untied it she kept holding on and went a surprising amount of time before finally letting go. It was so fun to watch her and the joy it brought to her!

best friends ;)

It was a wonderful day celebrating our beautiful girl! Happy first birthday Adelyn Ann! We sure do love you! What did we ever do without you?!

Addie's cake smash!

Last week we did Addie's cake smash. I wasn't sure what to expect since Emily didn't like touching the frosting for her birthday cake. Addie had no problems with that! She went for it and the thing was flat as a pancake by the time she was done with it ;) We had so much fun!!

sharing with daddy :)

Addie knows what it means to smash a cake ;)
